Election: Reaction

Commenting on the General Election outcome, the President of York & North Yorkshire Chamber said:

“I’d like to congratulate the MPs across North Yorkshire on their election victory and look forward to working with all to ensure that business and the economy remain priorities.

As the dust settles on the formation of the next government I would particularly welcome commitment from MPs to ensure funding for infrastructure needs is made available across the county. Devolution of powers and funding from Whitehall should play a large part in ensuring this happens and I call upon MPs to work with colleagues across Yorkshire to ensure the best possible deal is secured.

Closer to home, the Chamber would welcome political support to ensure progress is made in developing the York Local Plan, the city needs to be able to deliver housing and employment land to ensure economic growth is not held up.”

The Chamber will shortly seek views from a sample of members on the implications for Brexit as a result of the election outcome.
